clipity clip

Monday, March 31st, 2008

I just finished going through the Sunday paper coupon section. I had stopped clipping coupons for awhile because the warehouse store doesn’t take them. Now, since we’ve gotten a Super Target, I’ve started looking again. Sometimes I find a lot that I can really use and other times I come up empty handed.

When we lived in Maryland, we used to get grocery coupons in the mail all the time. Out here, you can only get them in the Sunday paper. The ones that come in the mail are mostly pizza and fast food.

I have looked into free grocery coupons online. I usually check them when the Sunday paper is kind of a bust. What about you? Do you clip coupons? Do you bother with anything less than 50 cents off? Do they wind up expiring before you remember to use them?

Must. Stop. Sewing. Bibs.

bibs

Seriously! These might be the most addicting things to sew ever! They are so quick and look so cute! Remember my first one? Believe it or not, M has almost outgrown the neck. A lot of her other bibs are getting small, too. I took my favorite bib, which was the template for the first one I made, and adjusted the pattern for a 18-24 month neck.

I can’t decide which one is my favorite. I love the little aprons and the salt and pepper shakers.

I really have to stop. How many bibs does one little girl need? We only use them for messy foods these days, like spaghetti and split pea soup. But these are great fabric stash busters: fleece was from the remnant basket at Joann’s and the fabric and snaps were from Michaels (thank you 40% off coupons!). Oh, did I mention the snaps?

button flowers

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Remember when I had the button notecard idea that wouldn’t go away until I made them? Well, I had another one: button flowers. I don’t know where these bursts of button creativity come from. I’m not even that much into embroidery, but loved hand stitching the little stems and leaves. This idea wouldn’t stop bouncing around in my head so I put them on something small and easy to finish: a felted bookmark.

someday, when I write that book

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

People always tell me I should write a book. Sometimes I think so, too. Writing a book seems easy. Getting it published seems like the hard part. I’ve considered self-publishing, but always thought that the end product would be unprofessional, like a spiral-bound notebook or something. Looks like I need to do some more publishing research, because I just discovered that you can self-publish hardback, paperback and even children’s books all online. How cool is that? I love the Internet.

do you twitter?

Monday, March 24th, 2008

I don’t know if you noticed, but I have a new section in my sidebar: “What am I doing right now?” It’s been up for about a week, maybe two, and it is run by a service called Twitter. I saw it on someone else’s blog and thought it was cool. Then I read more about it and found out Everyone is using it—even Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, and as we found out from the news the other day, the McCain campaign, too. It’s mostly a cell phone and pda application, I think. I’m kind of behind the times on handheld texting. I thought I should at least try it out, though. I want to be like the cool kids, too! Only problem is that some days I forget about it and it looks silly, like when it says I’m going to bed all day long. (Wouldn’t that be nice, though?) I can’t decide if I’m going to keep it up, though. I keep thinking, why would someone even care what I am doing right now?

what’s for easter dinner?

easter bella

We had ham, glazed carrots and bacon potato salad. The ham was good. It was a spiral cut from Super Target. The carrots and potatoes were dishes I whipped up last minute because we took a long afternoon nap. I’m not a huge fan of ham or cooked carrots. I’m not sure what inspired this meal plan, but it was good. Really good! The potato salad was inspired by Tana. She’s all about potato salad. You can’t knit with her on a Saturday afternoon without coming home and thinking, “I need to make some potato salad.”

Glazed Carrots
1 lb frozen carrot coins, microwaved until warm
1/4 c brown sugar
1 T butter
1/4 t vanilla

Melt the butter and brown sugar in a sauce pan. Add the carrots. Stir until glazed. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Note: This is a lot less butter and brown sugar than most recipes call for, so don’t expect a super duper glaze. It’s light with a hint of sweetness.

Bacon Potato Salad
2 slices of turkey bacon cooked and chopped
4 baking potatoes microwaved in jackets
3 T light mayo
2 T light olive oil
salt and pepper

When the potatoes are cool enough to handle, peel and chop into 1 inch cubes. Combine with other ingredients. Serve while warm. Yum!

What did you have for Easter dinner? Do you have any special traditions? Did you make everything from scratch or cheat like we did? Or do you celebrate in a restaurant and let someone else cook? If you don’t celebrate Easter, do you have any traditions for when the rest of town is closed for Bunny Day?

custom wool felted bag :: light blue

Friday, March 21st, 2008

This custom bag turned out way better than I had imagined. It is so soft and I love the lining! I also like the little bit of garter stitch on the handles. More pics here.

bookworm

This is what happens when you leave a wagon full of books next to the crib during nap time. No wonder she never went to sleep!

my first clothing alteration

Monday, March 17th, 2008

M had these comfy Gap pants that I picked up from a yard sale, but they were really bulky. She’s pretty long and skinny and these were definitely cut for a chubbier toddler. The other day I decided to fix them. After all, they only cost me like a dollar or something. What was the worst that could happen if I screwed them up?

pink pants

I took a pair of pants that I knew fit her well, laid them on top and traced them like a pattern onto the larger pants. Then I sewed two new seams and cut the excess fabric and pockets off. It’s not the neatest alteration in the world, but they look MUCH better on her. I can only imagine they feel better, too.

They’re still a little big overall, and I have a feeling she’ll get a lot of use out of them this Spring.
